DERRYLL BRUDZINSKI’s interactive, abstract compositions are created with the beauty of shape in mind, reflecting an aesthetic expression channeled through precise design elements.

The striking abstract sculptures and wall reliefs of Derryll Brudzinski illustrate this principle through his dazzling non-representational wood relief sculptures. Employing minimalist artistic language integrated with re-cycled mixed media forms, Mr. Brudzinski explains that his abstract compositions are always created with the beauty of shape in mind reflecting an aesthetic expression channeled through precise design elements. His sculptural wall reliefs such as "Dream Catcher" and "Outside the Box" are modern metaphors which introduce meditative introspection and self evaluation. Comprised of lobster trap parts found objects retrieved from Maine beaches, shredded money as well as many other mixed media objects, the artist states he hopes his art will enable us to "remove the masks that our culture has imposed on us".

Intermingling combinations of color tones to create diverse image variations, his color filled constructivist mixed media wood reliefs are amplified by constructed objects. Derryll Brudzinski's artistic vision focuses primarily on the boundary between what is internal and external, posing a perceptual visual riddle. Thus the play with geometrical elements, which at first sight may seem more like a search for the perfect combination of colorful solid geometrical bodies, acquires an altogether different visual vitality. Boldly and firmly embracing his individuality as an artist, Derryll Brudzinski's wall constructions and sculptures are known for their highly disciplined art form and dynamic precision of craftsmanship. Existing on their own aesthetic terms, his visceral sculptures and reliefs reveal an energized spatial composition, by exploring dimensions through layering simple shapes and juxtaposing them against expressive color. Contrasting organic forms create complex relationships as they overlap within an abstracted interactive background, and there is a subtle change of color and density as his hard-edge band styled produces vibrations and illusions of spatial expansion. Derryll Brudzinski's judiciously planned oeuvre coordinates a close color rapport with considerable finesse, and his spectral colors exist independently in space, without altering the over-all forms of the surface, or the complexities of the structure itself.

With a contemporary visual vocabulary, Derryll Brudzinski's visceral oeuvre manifests the dynamic placement of colors and shapes in a carefully controlled aesthetic environment. Building an atmosphere with intermingling forms and limited blocks of color, this gifted artist utilizes the rectilinear and organic shapes in hues as he transforms the relationship of shapes into complex spaces. Design comes together; to create an active composition where line, color and form coalesce and float freely in space, creating a complex relationship between the individual elements and the overall construction.

Complex and metaphoric, Derryll Brudzinski's masterful work intellectualizes a visual harmony where colorful, sharply controlled, angular shapes are skillfully executed within a rhythmic spatial composition. Working in many mediums, including sculpture, painting, painted reliefs, as well as pottery, his art is garnering national recognition. Exhibiting extensively in the Northeast region, including important exhibitions in Maine and Massachusetts, and being showcased at Lincoln Center in New York City as well as the Nassau Museum of Art, Derryll Brudzinski’s sculptures, pottery and painting are treasured in both private and public collections. Amsterdam Whitney Gallery is delighted to shine the spotlight on this rising star!
